The company is boosting capacity to its data centre in Sydney to meet the rapidly growing demand for high-power, high-availability co-location infrastructure in Australia

SYDNEY, 10 May 2012 – Pacnet today announced the expansion of its CloudSpace data centre facility in Sydney to meet the growing demand for data centre services in Australia.

“This is the latest in our series of investments into growing our CloudSpace infrastructure, as we expand our capabilities to help businesses take advantage of the cloud,” said Bill Barney, Chief Executive Officer, Pacnet. “In addition to upgrading our current facilities, we are also looking at new geographies as part of our plans for our next phase of CloudSpace data centre expansion.”

According to the latest research from Frost and Sullivan, the Australia data centre services market is forecast to grow from US$447 million in 2010 to US$1.2 billion in 2017, at a compounded annual growth rate of 15.1 per cent.

The Sydney CloudSpace1 (SYCS1) data centre located at Liverpool Street was first launched in February 2011 and this second phase of expansion will add up to 700 racks and 3 MW of power to the facility when completed, complementing the capacity from four other data centres that Pacnet operates in Australia.

CloudSpace data centres are premier Tier III data centre facilities fully-operated by Pacnet and built to exacting standards to offer a high-availability environment for mission-critical equipment. These facilities can easily meet the high-power, high-performance and high-efficiency requirements of content-driven organizations and multi-site organizations.

Earlier this year, Pacnet launched its fourth CloudSpace data centre – HKCS2, in Hong Kong, a two-storey facility built within Pacnet’s cable landing station in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, adjacent to its first CloudSpace facility, HKCS1. HKCS1 was launched together with SGCS1, Pacnet’s pioneering CloudSpace facility in Singapore. Pacnet currently owns and manages four CloudSpace data centres, which are part of its network of 23 data centres across the Asia Pacific region.

Pacnet’s cloud strategy covers a wide part of the cloud ecosystem. Beyond providing advanced data centre infrastructure to help businesses benefit from the cloud, Pacnet has developed its own portolio of cloud computing solution including Pacnet Virtual Private Server (VPS), an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) product launched in Australia in August last year. Pacnet VPS provides high-end computational, storage and networking assets to customers that require access to scalable, advanced server infrastructure, without the need for huge, upfront capital investment.

With more than 21 years of IT and telecommunications experience, Mr Stitt has served in a number of senior positions with Pacnet over the past 8 years, most recently National Sales Director for Pacnet Australia. His successful track record has earned him a number of recognitions within the company including the prestigious Pacnet Hall of Fame award in 2010.

“We are pleased to appoint Nigel to the helm of Pacnet’s Australia and New Zealand operations where he can fully utilize his industry expertise and business savvy in moving our local business into its next generation,” said Bill Barney, CEO of Pacnet.

Prior to joining Pacnet Mr Stitt was General Manager of Techcel/CNN Internet where he became a top revenue contributor after developing a business model integrating ISP offerings with its IT integration business.

The company will deliver low-latency, lightning-fast connectivity to connect the global financial community to the stock exchange’s new data center

HONG KONG, 28 March 2012 – Pacnet announced today it has been selected by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) as a Founding Member of the HKEx Hosting Services Ecosystem. Pacnet will provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity to support customers of the stock exchange’s new hosting services in its new data center in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate.

As part of HKEx’s Hosting Services Founding Members Program, Pacnet will participate in the early set-up of the hosting ecosystem at HKEx’s Next Generation Data Center (NGDC), before its launch later this year.

The company’s second data center in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate is ready for service and will address the growing demand for data center services across Asia

HONG KONG, 22 March 2012 – Pacnet, Asia’s premier provider of connectivity and data hosting services, today announced the launch of Hong Kong CloudSpace2 (HKCS2), the company’s newest data center in Hong Kong.

“Hong Kong’s high level of international network connectivity, reliable power supply and low risk to natural disasters are key factors that have contributed to our decision to invest in building HKCS2, our latest, state-of-the-art CloudSpace data center, here,” said Bill Barney, Chief Executive Officer of Pacnet. “Hong Kong, which now hosts four of our data centers, is also a strategic location within our network of connected data centers across Asia as it is centrally positioned in the region and highly connected through our EAC-C2C subsea cable network, making our facilities here an essential part of any businesses needing a robust, Asia-wide data center infrastructure.”

“The Government is committed to promoting Hong Kong as the locale of choice for setting up data centers in the Asia Pacific region, and developing Hong Kong as a hub of technology cooperation and trade. We are glad that Pacnet has chosen Hong Kong as part of its data center expansion plan. This reaffirms our status as the prime location for data centers in the region. Companies can leverage our unique geographical position and competitive edge to advance their businesses in Asia Pacific. We will continue to facilitate the setting up of data centers here in Hong Kong,” said Daniel Lai, BBS, JP, Government Chief Information Officer, Hong Kong.

The two-storey facility, located at Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, is Pacnet’s second CloudSpace data center in Hong Kong and features a high-power density, delivering up to 10kVA of power per cabinet to meet the most demanding equipment requirements.

Similar to Pacnet’s first CloudSpace data center Hong Kong CloudSpace1 (HKCS1) located just 100 meters away, HKCS2 is built within the site of one of Pacnet’s wholly-owned cable landing stations. Both of these CloudSpace data centers are unique among data centers in the region as they have direct access to Pacnet’s EAC-C2C subsea cable network, offering high-capacity, low-latency international connectivity that is critical to many of today’s business applications. Additionally, Pacnet’s EAC-C2C subsea cable network connects into Hong Kong via six diverse paths, offering the most number of redundant routes among the subsea cables landing into Hong Kong for unparallelled reliability.

CloudSpace data centers are premier Tier III data center facilities fully operated by Pacnet and built to exacting standards to offer a high-availability environment which ensures the uninterrupted performance of mission-critical equipment. These facilities will exceed the high-power, high-performance and high-efficiency requirements of content-driven organizations and multi-site organizations.

With the launch of HKCS2, Pacnet now operates 22 data centers across the region, four of which are CloudSpace facilities.

Pacnet CDN is Asia’s most extensive CDN deployment by a telecommunications service provider utilizing its wholly-owned network and hosting infrastructure

TOKYO, 29 November 2011 – Pacnet, Asia’s leading business telecommunications service provider, today launched Pacnet CDN, its latest content delivery network (CDN) service that redefines the delivery of web content and revolutionizes the Internet experience.

“Every day, tens of millions of media-rich websites on the World Wide Web are battling for the attention of consumers around the world. To help increasingly web-enabled businesses capture and engage their audience, we have launched Pacnet CDN, a turnkey solution that utilizes our unsurpassed subsea network coverage and state-of-the-art data centers to distribute rich digital content at the speed of light and optimize applications hosted in the Cloud,” said Bill Barney, Chief Executive Officer of Pacnet.

Pacnet CDN accelerates the Internet experience by bringing digital content closer to the user. Through an extensive network of CDN Points of Presence (PoP) located across the Asia Pacific region, the service will intelligently deliver the latest content from the CDN PoP closest to the user. This will enable users to enjoy faster-loading websites, lag-free high-definition streaming media and rapid file downloads.

Pacnet CDN is unique in that it is backed by Pacnet’s growing interconnected, high-speed hosting facilities across Asia Pacific, including its Data Landing Stations, and also Pacnet’s robust subsea and IP network infrastructure. Pacnet CDN is also supported by technology from EdgeCast, a leading provider of CDN technology.

With full end-to-end control of the CDN network, Pacnet has the speed and flexibility to scale up quickly to meet the demands of customers and deliver a complete one-stop, digital content distribution solution. In addition, Pacnet’s customers benefit from increased efficiency and greater cost savings that comes with the company’s ownership and operation of the core CDN infrastructure.

Pacnet’s first CDN PoPs are in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, with additional nodes added in the coming months that will span 10 countries in the Asia Pacific region, making it the region’s most extensive CDN deployment by a telecommunications service provider on its wholly-owned network and hosting infrastructure.

Japan is the gateway for traffic between Asia and North America and is at the center of the explosive growth of digital content traversing the Pacific Ocean. It is also a key location in Pacnet’s CDN strategy as in Asia, the Japan CDN PoP is the closest PoP to the US, hence it will be the primary PoP that will accelerate the Internet experience of users in North America who are accessing content from other locations in Asia.

Pacnet’s CDN solutions are now available across all Pacnet locations worldwide, and include the following comprehensive suite of services:

Content Delivery Services accelerate the delivery of content, including websites, file downloads, as well as high-definition “live” and on-demand streaming video, regardless of the end-user’s location for an enhanced user experience.

Dynamic Content Acceleration speeds up delivery of dynamic and static content for a variety of web applications using cutting-edge optimization and acceleration technologies, which enables up to 5 times performance improvement for a faster, more stable experience for end-users.

Content Origin Storage leverages Pacnet’s advanced data center infrastructure to enable flexible content storage in a secure environment and on a cost-effective monthly subscription model based on the total volume of data stored.

Value Added Services allows users to take care of additional content delivery requirements with a number of security, management and reporting tools to protect their content and digital rights, manage their network and gain insights from end-users’ web-viewing behavior through comprehensive real-time analytics and reporting.

High-performance, high-resiliency Infrastructure-as-a-Service solution allows customers to build advanced enterprise-grade server environments at lower costs

SYDNEY, 21 September 2011 – Pacnet, Asia’s leading business telecommunications service provider, today announced the launch of Pacnet Virtual Private Server (VPS), its first Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution in its growing portfolio of cloud computing solutions.

“As organisations deploy increasingly demanding applications requiring more robust server environments, they are also recognising the high costs and resource requirements associated with building traditional server environments,” said Chris Wilson, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy and Management, Pacnet. “Pacnet VPS, our new IaaS service which is part of our broader cloud strategy, extends high-end computational, storage and networking assets to customers that require access to scalable, advanced server infrastructure, without the need for huge, upfront capital investment.”

“Australian businesses have shown that they are at the forefront of cloud computing and we have already seen some of them quickly recognising the value that Pacnet VPS delivers,” said Deborah Homewood, Chief Executive Officer of Pacnet Australia & New Zealand. “Their adoption of Pacnet VPS goes beyond just looking for cost savings as they realise that the service, along with our network and hosting infrastructure, allows them to minimise downtime, support their business continuity and disaster recovery plans, as well as host new services in a safe and secure environment.”

Pacnet VPS leverages Pacnet’s extensive IP VPN network, and delivers high-performance and high-resiliency virtual servers that function just like physical servers. Built from industry-leading virtualisation software, servers, storage equipment and platforms, the service allows customers the flexibility to choose from four configurations – Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large – to match their compute and storage requirements. Customers also have a choice of either Microsoft Windows Server Standard or Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the operating system of the virtual server.

Optional features include a choice of backup services and additional Microsoft Business Application software licenses, which may also be included as part of the service package. The service is also offered on a monthly fee over flexible 6, 12, 24 or 36-month terms.

As with any Pacnet service, Pacnet VPS is supported by Pacnet’s technical support team with a history of service excellence.

Pacnet VPS is immediately available in Australia. Availability across other locations in Asia will be announced at a later date.
