Pacnet Singapore CloudSpace II Recognized for Environmental Sustainability with BCA-IDA Green Mark GoldPLUS Award for Data Centres

SINGAPORE, 28 July 2014 – Pacnet today announced its Singapore CloudSpace II (SGCS2) has been awarded the GoldPLUS rating under the Green Mark for Data Centres scheme by Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). The BCA-IDA Green Mark for Data Centres scheme is a dedicated green building rating system that is designed to encourage the adoption of energy efficient design, operation and management within data centers.

In achieving its Green Mark GoldPLUS accolade, Pacnet was able to demonstrate the data center’s robust performance in overall energy efficiency, water efficiency, sustainable construction and management, and indoor environmental quality. The eight-story, 155,000-square foot standalone facility, strategically located in Paya Lebar, boasts fully redundant power and cooling systems, advanced fire detection and suppression systems, as well as a latest-generation security access system.

“Our overall data center sustainability efforts at Pacnet not only focus on energy efficiency, but also incorporate facets such as water savings and cooling tower design,” said Giles Proctor, Vice President of Data Center Services at Pacnet. “This BCA-IDA Green Mark GoldPLUS accolade once again demonstrates our leadership in designing innovative data centers. Our Hong Kong CloudSpace II data center, HKCS2, was also awarded the LEED Gold certification.”

Officially launched in January this year, SGCS2 has incorporated several key environmentally friendly elements during its construction. These included making use of the existing Singapore Warehouse Building with minimum modification, boosting robust thermal performance by improvements made to the building façade, and deploying efficient chiller plant, computer room air handler unit and buffer tank technology.  In addition, effective power management has been realized through transformer efficiency, which is able to achieve above 98 percent, while the overall electrical system efficiency can achieve above 93 percent. The PUE achieved at 100 percent load is 1.43, which is equivalent to an energy saving of 28.5 percent.

In addition, Pacnet’s SGCS2 is the first data center in Singapore to be recognized with Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification of Design Documents, which is an international benchmarking classification systems for data centers. The facility not only provides customers with colocation and connectivity services but also offers them access to Pacnet’s managed services, including the award-winning software-defined networking (SDN) architecture Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN).

The BCA-IDA Green Mark for Data Centres scheme assesses data centers based on five key criteria – energy efficiency, water efficiency, sustainable construction and management, indoor environment quality as well as other green features, with greater emphasis placed on the energy performance as data centers typically consumes large amounts of energy. The scheme is jointly developed by Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and IDA with supporting partners from Energy Research Institute @ Nanyang Technological University (ERI@N) and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs (LBNL) in the US.

Pacnet receives highest scores in 2 out of 4 Use Cases total in Gartner’s Critical Capabilities report*

Leading Integrated Technology Solutions Provider Receives Highest Scores in High-Capacity Networks and Low-Latency Networks Use Cases

HONG KONG, 16 July 2014 – Pacnet, a leading provider of integrated technology solutions in the Asia-Pacific region, today announced that Gartner gives Pacnet the highest scores for 2 out of 4 Uses Cases named in the report: 3.7 out of 5 for High-Capacity Networks Use Case and 3.8 out of 5 for Low-Latency Networks Use Case as Pacnet received Product Score in Managed MPLS VPN, Ethernet Services, Internet Access, and Managed WAN Optimization/APM*.

Pacnet’s EAC-C2C is Asia’s leading state-of-the-art fiber optic submarine cable network spanning 36,800 kilometers between Hong Kong, China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines and Singapore.  In addition to its flexible charging scheme and usage-based port charging options, Pacnet offers a high-capacity, low-latency service leveraging its optical network — recently upgraded to support 100G bandwidth and enhanced with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) capabilities via the release of Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN).

Pacnet’s MPLS-based IP VPN network provides full regional coverage as well as direct connectivity into China through an interconnection with Pacnet Business Solutions, its equity joint venture in China.  The company expanded its IP VPN service into emerging markets such as Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

According to Gartner, “Most communications service providers (CSPs) can provide connectivity to all the major markets in Asia, but differ significantly in their connectivity to new emerging markets in the Greater Mekong region and the Indian subcontinent, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) interconnections with local carriers, and their ability to support extended domestic connectivity in emerging markets. MPLS Internet Protocol (IP) virtual private network (VPN) continues to be the service of choice for multinational corporations (MNCs). However, demand is growing for two niche, but increasingly important, services: high-capacity services for content distribution to Asia’s very large consumer market, and low-latency services for financial trading and the banking sector.”*

“We believe Gartner’s assessment reaffirms Pacnet’s position as a strong connectivity player with robust Ethernet over optical networks, superior connectivity into emerging markets, good service and support, and experience in supporting large and highly distributed networks,” said Andy Lumsden, Chief Technology Officer at Pacnet. “We consider it also identifies Pacnet as a regional leader in the growing segments for high-capacity and low-latency services which were identified by Gartner as increasingly important in the APAC region.”

The Techno Group Signs On To Pacnet Enabled Network

Leading Australian systems integrator looks to SDN for disaster recovery and meeting customer dynamic bandwidth demands

HONG KONG, 8 MAY 2014 – Pacnet today announced that The Techno Group, one of Australia’s leading systems integrators, has signed on to the Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN) for running its disaster recovery operation and addressing customers’ business demands. PEN is a fully automated software-defined network (SDN) that allows The Techno Group to self-provision bandwidth in minutes, based on its individual business needs.

The Techno Group offers private cloud-based solutions hosted out of data centres in Melbourne and Sydney for clients throughout Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Prior to signing on to PEN, The Techno Group used a fixed-cost bandwidth connection for its disaster replication requirements but it was only utilised during an actual disaster recovery process, resulting in limited or no activity for lengthy periods of time while still incurring the same fixed bandwidth cost.

With PEN, The Techno Group is now able to provision network services between two locations in minutes via an online portal Pacnet Connect without going through the traditional, long lead, manual provisioning process.  The Techno Group has successfully been able to virtually link its data centre locations with up to 200 Mbps of bandwidth which is available anytime for its disaster recovery process.

“The Pacnet Enabled Network has taken our disaster recovery program to a new level by giving us the flexibility to perform data replication based on demand.  It is fantastic to see that new technologies like PEN are now available here in Australia to help systems integrators like us,” said Peter Bell, Founder, Techno Group. “We have taken advantage of PEN to both optimise resources, while minimising costs enabling us to delivering a premium solution to our client base.”

Specifically, The Techno Group’s Techno Phobia business unit is using PEN to support customers who require secure file transfers such as design and printing companies, which need to send large files across continents and require readily available bandwidth on demand. The Techno Group is only billed according to the amount, quality and duration of its network usage while at the same time benefitting from industry-leading SLAs and secure private network.

Nigel Stitt, CEO – Australia and New Zealand Pacnet said, “Across the region, PEN is enabling customers such as The Techno Group to transform their businesses for the new always-on digital era and reap the benefits of high-performance and cloud-ready networks.  With PEN, Pacnet brings cloud capability down to the network layer, empowering private and public sector organisations with robust, on-demand, scalable bandwidth which produce both an economic and business benefit.”

PEN users are able to create a virtualised cross-connected environment leveraging Pacnet’s wholly-owned network of data centres and extensive submarine cable infrastructure for unrivalled coverage of business centres across Asia-Pacific. PEN also utilises OpenFlow, an open-source technology, for high-performance network management, providing seamless connectivity to a hybrid cloud service environment, giving customers the flexibility to choose their cloud vendor.
